Fallout still spreads from infamous House Bill 6

 

On March 5, 2024, on behalf of the Citizens Utility Board of Ohio (CUB) and the Union of Concerned Scientists (UCS), we submitted the final brief to the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) to address the expensive subsidy imposed statewide on all Ohio electricity consumers by HB6 to offset utility company losses for two 1950s-era coal plants. Alongside consumer, manufacturing, and environmental interests in this nearly 2 ½ year long PUCO regulatory proceeding, we worked to ensure ratepayers aren’t left to foot the bill for the over $100 million in above market costs incurred by Duke Energy Ohio, Inc., the Dayton Power & Light Company, and AEP Ohio for continued operation of these antiquated plants.
